At The Classic, we get asked all the time if we cut Black hair. The answer is yes. Yes and yes.
Why haven’t we mentioned it before? I don’t know, but that’s our bad. The fact is, we cut Black hair, we do it well, and we’re proud of that.
It can be tough to find a barber who knows how to cut your hair.
Sadly, you can’t just walk into any chain and expect them to have experience with your specific kind of hair. Finding a barbershop for Black hair shouldn’t be a gamble, but too many folks have been burned by a bad cut because a barber didn’t know what they were doing and didn’t come clean beforehand.
Some shops don’t think you should talk about this kind of stuff.
Here’s the thing, though: We think it’s better to be up front. A lot of barber shops won’t acknowledge the limits of their experience, or aren’t sure how to handle Black hair. And then you only find out after they make a mistake at your expense.
If you don’t like us talking about this, you probably haven’t been to our shop before. We’re real. We’re proud of the work we do.
Fact: Black guys’ hair requires specific techniques.
Some techniques barbers like to use, like finger-pulling hair or relying on a guard alone for an even cut, just won’t work.
So, you’ve got to have experience and the skills.
You need a barber who can freehand it with clippers.
Freehanding sculpts Black hair in its natural shape so it doesn’t spring back into an uneven nightmare. Our barbers nail the precision needed for a clean cut.
You also want to cut when it’s dry.
You already know this, but Black hair can look deceptively long when it’s wet. Cutting it dry lets us see the actual shape while we work.
We start with a consultation.
Surprise is never a good thing if you’re trying out a new barber or changing your style. You want to have a good idea of what your haircut will look like.
That’s why before we take the clippers to your hair, we sit down, look at factors like your face shape, hair texture, and growth patterns, and talk through what you want. Then we’ll tell you what will work best for your hair and what the maintenance routine will look like at home.
Our barbers can handle fades, waves, and all the good stuff.
We take our craft seriously. We’re also all about helping you find the haircut that you want.
Whether that’s a nice, clean skin fade, wave, or whatever, we can handle it.
It’s all about the blend.
We use precision clipper work to give your hair a seamless transition. Then we finish with a crisp line-up around your temples and neck to make the cut pop.
Flat, even waves look right and feel good.
We work with your natural curl pattern to cut your waves so they lay flat. We clean up your crown and taper your sides so your waves are uniform, connected, and smooth all the way around.
Or we can match any style you want.
At The Classic, we’re here to get you your ideal cut. You want a high top, cornrows, or a simple buzz cut? We can make it happen. If you bring in a reference photo or have a unique design idea, we have the skills to bring it to life. From scratch or from a photo. It doesn’t matter.
Check out the straight razor shaves.
A big part of the barbershop treatment is the straight razor shave. We’re all about it.
While modern multi-blade razors tug at the skin, causing razor burns and ingrown hairs, a quality straight razor will give you a close shave with fewer passes. You’ll feel clean and look smooth without the irritation.
Our classic shave includes a hot towel treatment, hot lather or lotion, and a straight razor shave with and against the grain.
Need beard maintenance? Not a problem.
We’re not just about shaving beards off. We can also sculpt them. A sharp haircut deserves an equally clean beard trim.
The reality is, beard hair on Black men tends to be coarse and tightly curled. That means trimming it incorrectly can easily lead to razor bumps and ingrown hairs. We’re skilled with clippers and straight razors, so we can shape your beard and define clean lines without unnecessary irritation.
Then we finish off with lightweight oils to keep your facial hair soft and hydrated.
We cut kids’ hair, too.
It’s not always easy finding a barbershop that will cut your hair and your little man’s. We love it.
At The Classic, we know that when you take your son to the barber for the first time, it’s our job to make him comfortable and happy, so he’ll want to come back.
Pull up a chair. The Classic is a place for good company.
We keep things welcoming and relaxed. We’ve built a real community. Anyone who wants to can come in, kick back, share stories, and walk out looking their best should visit.
