Two great looking haircuts for widow’s peaks.

If you have a widow’s peak, AKA a receding hairline that forms a V shape at the center of your forehead, don’t worry: There are different haircuts for the widow’s peak that can keep you looking stylish.

What is a widow’s peak?

I’m not talking about a Count Dracula-style look here. The widow’s peak is a hairline that’s thinning at the corners but still strong in the middle. It’s a normal part of aging for a lot of men. Sometimes it’s a sign of continued hair loss, but lots of guys also maintain the widow’s peak as-is for years or decades.

There are two solid options when it comes to the best haircuts for a widow’s peak:

  1. A buzz cut to embrace the shape of your hairline.
  2. A textured crop to take the attention elsewhere.

Get a buzz cut and embrace the widow’s peak.

A buzz cut is a solid choice for summer and a short style that uses clippers to make your hair consistent and close-cropped.

If you have a widow’s peak, a buzz cut will turn the V shape of your hairline into a hard line that frames your face. It’s a great option if you want to look good without too much maintenance and lean into a mature presence.

A buzz also pairs well with a short beard, which gives your face more balance.

There are a few different buzz cuts that go with the widow’s peak.

Your choice is based on how short and consistent you want to go. Some barbers use the 3-2-1 rule, with a #3 guard on the clippers for the hair on top, #2 for the back, and #1 on the sides.

You can also try a uniform buzz cut, which uses a #1 or #2 clipper guard all the way around. One warning about the uniform buzz: Because the hair on the side of your head grows out a little faster than the top, you’ll have to get it cut more often.

Or choose a textured crop to draw attention away from your hairline.

If you’re not quite ready to fully embrace the peak, that’s okay too. Here’s how the textured crop works: The sides and back of your head are cut short (usually a low skin fade), and the top is longer and messier.

Because the textured crop gives you a little more hair to work with in front, you can soften your widow’s peak. The cut works especially well if your hair is thick or wavy.

Shorter hair looks thicker.

This effect happens because there’s less weight pulling down the hair and exposing the scalp. So even if you go with a slightly longer cut like a textured crop, you should still keep it fairly short.
