George’s Pick: Best Hair Products For Fades

Want to know the best hair products for fades? That’s easy.

Over my 20-year career, I’ve seen a lot of good ones. But these three products stand alone in terms of helping you maintain or even transform your look:

  1. Rolda Hair Texturizing Styling Powder
  2. Johnny B. Mode Styling Gel
  3. Suavecito Original Hold Pomade

Keep a clean look between haircuts with the right products.

I recently wrote about what to ask your barber if you want to get a fade that works for you and how that haircut is different from an undercut.

Now for the next step. If you’ve got a fade you’re happy with, and you want to continue wearing it well, that requires quality products. Fortunately, these three are readily available.

1. Rolda Hair Texturizing Styling Powder

Rolda Hair Texturizing Styling Powder adds volume and texture. It is lighter than other styling products and doesn’t have a greasy feel. Rolda’s, even more than other brands, provides quick, satisfying results.

I recommend starting with a smaller amount. Sprinkle some directly into your hair (dry is better), and use your fingertips to style. Add more powder as needed.

2. Johnny B. Mode Styling Gel

Johnny B. Mode Styling Gel is a favorite of mine for its firm hold. It’ll give your fade a styled look and hold shape, especially for medium and thick hair. And unlike a lot of styling gels, it doesn’t tend to flake.

Another plus is that this styling gel can be reactivated with water, so it lasts longer than many other brands.

3. Suavecito Original Hold Pomade

Suavecito Original Hold Pomade gives your hair a medium hold with a healthy shine. It washes out easily with water.

Pomade doesn’t have quite as strong a hold as hair gel. So, if you want a more natural look rather than something a bit more dramatic, I’d go with Suavecito.

It’s versatile and easy to use: just put a dime-sized amount in your hands and work it into your hair. If you want a stronger hold with more shine, apply it to wet hair. Otherwise, dry is best.
